What are the different laptop charger connector types?
Aureval publishes twelve distinct connector types across its laptop chargers: USB-C, MagSafe and MagSafe 2, five barrel-pin sizes, the Lenovo slim tip, the ASUS interchangeable-tip design, the HP slim smart pin, and the Surface connector. The table below lists every one, with its wattage and the model that uses it.
In short: Twelve connector types appear across the chargers Aureval publishes, from USB-C to five different barrel-pin sizes. Match the connector type and its exact dimension first; wattage and voltage only matter once the connector fits.

What does USB-C PD mean on a laptop charger?
USB-C PD (Power Delivery) lets a laptop and charger negotiate how much power to draw, so the laptop takes only what it needs up to the charger’s maximum. The HP 65W USB-C Laptop Charger, for example, is listed as adapting between 15W, 27W, 60W and 65W to suit the device. Not every USB-C charger listed negotiates power in this way; check the individual product page.
What is the difference between MagSafe and MagSafe 2?
They are different connector shapes and are not interchangeable: the original MagSafe has an L-shaped magnetic pin, used by the Apple 45W adapter, and MagSafe 2 has a T-shaped magnetic pin, used by the Apple 60W and 85W adapters.
What is the Lenovo slim-tip connector?
It is a rectangular slim tip (square pin), used by the Lenovo 230W Laptop Adapter for Legion gaming laptops. It is different from the round 4.0mm x 1.7mm pin used by the Lenovo 65W Laptop Adapter, so the two Lenovo chargers are not interchangeable.
What is the Surface connector?
It is the magnetic connector used by the Microsoft Surface 65W Power Adapter, which also includes an extra USB port for charging a phone or accessory alongside the Surface device.
What do buyers ask about charger connector types?
Are all barrel-pin laptop chargers the same size?
No. The barrel-pin chargers published on aurevalhub.com use several different sizes, including 4.0mm x 1.7mm, 5.5mm x 1.7mm, 6.0mm x 3.7mm and 7.4mm x 5.0mm. A charger with the wrong pin size will not fit, even if the wattage matches.
Can a MagSafe charger be used where MagSafe 2 is needed?
No. MagSafe (original) has an L-shaped magnetic pin and MagSafe 2 has a T-shaped magnetic pin; they are different connector shapes and are not interchangeable.
What connector does the ASUS 65W Universal Laptop Charger use?
It uses a universal, interchangeable-tip design rather than one fixed connector, shipping with swappable tips so it can be used across a range of ASUS laptops.
Do the Dell 180W charger and the Acer 330W adapter use the same connector?
They use the same pin size, 7.4mm x 5.0mm, but they are two different chargers for two different laptop brands. A shared pin size does not by itself confirm the voltage also matches; check both.
Where can I check which connector my laptop needs?
For a model-by-model match, see the brand compatibility guides: HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer and Apple. Browse every model on the laptop chargers & adapters page, or read the laptop chargers and power adapters guide for how connector, voltage and wattage fit together.
